Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur follow the story of supergirl genius Luna Lafayette who takes on villains and real-life problems with her trusted Dino buddy that she accidentally zaps into the Lower East Side of New York City with one of her many inventions.
Diamond White plays Luna, the first young black superhero who teaches us valuable life lessons and sets the tone for seeing more diversity in animation, especially as influential young figures of color.
The premiere episode paints a colorful New York City, and executive producers Laurence Fishburne and Steve Loter created a world similar to ours where there is beauty but also reality. Many of the events mirror society and some of the obstacles Luna must fight to make sure the lower east side receives the attention it deserves. She can turn any basic household accessory into a super powerful gadget and use her intelligence to figure out any system in place, and save her loved ones and community from the bad guys.
While speaking to Diamond White, we touched on the importance of Luna’s role in the Marvel universe and Disney animation as a whole. Her experience and how she prepared to bring Luna to life, adding her own traits and personality, and how her bond with the other characters translated on screen.
While her achievements speak for themselves, White also shares how she keeps her mental health in check in the entertainment industry and gives advice for others to always give grace and allow time for themselves to stay mentally healthy.
