Bubba Wallace Responds After Trump Calls For Apology Over Noose Incident

Donald Trump woke up this morning with a few things on his mind including NASCAR star Bubba Wallace. The President took to Twitter to share a message to the professional driver following the noose incident.

As we previously reported, NASCAR and the FBI launched an immediate investigation last month after a member of Wallace’s crew discovered the noose in his garage at Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama. While it was confirmed that it was definitely a noose, it was determined that it wasn’t a targeted hate crime against Wallace. However, the incident prompted an outpouring of support for Wallace in the NASCAR community.

Meanwhile, Trump shared his thoughts on the incident on Monday and said, “Has @BubbaWallace apologized to all of those great NASCAR drivers & officials who came to his aid, stood by his side, & were willing to sacrifice everything for him, only to find out that the whole thing was just another HOAX? That & Flag decision has caused lowest ratings EVER!” Trump said. Wallace, on the other hand, responded in a very professional way. He said, “Always deal with the hate being thrown at you with LOVE! Love over hate every day,” Wallace wrote on Twitter. “Love should come naturally as people are TAUGHT to hate. Even when it’s HATE from the POTUS..Love wins.”

In a statement, NASCAR said it was “proud to have Bubba Wallace in the NASCAR family and we commend his courage and leadership.” “NASCAR continues to stand tall with Bubba, our competitors and everyone who makes our sport welcoming and inclusive for all racing fans,” the organization added.

On Tuesday, the FBI said the noose discovered in NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace’s garage over the weekend had been there since October 2019 and said it concluded that “no crime” had actually been committed.

After the latest update on the case was shared, the hashtag #BubbaHoax began trending on Twitter with some users comparing the NASCAR star to Jussie Smollett. Now, despite that, Wallace is making it clear that it wasn’t a hoax and that what he found in his garage was a “straight-up noose.”

While speaking with CNN’s Don Lemon Tuesday night, Wallace said he never personally saw the noose and was simply reacting to what the head of NASCAR had told him about it. Having seen images of the rope after the fact, Wallace stated, “It’s a straight-up noose.” He went on to say, “I talked to my crew chief about it. … I wanted to make sure we weren’t jumping the gun,” Wallace told Lemon. ” … It was a noose. Whether tied in 2019, or whatever, it was a noose. So, it wasn’t directed at me, but somebody tied a noose.”

Meanwhile, NASCAR did release a statement saying, “We appreciate the FBI’s quick and thorough investigation and are thankful to learn that this was not an intentional, racist act against Bubba.”
