In a video posted to social media on Friday (September 8), King Harris is seen offering a man on the street a package of the viral Paqui “One Chip” outside of a convenience store. In the clip, Harris tells the man that if he does the challenge, he will give him $50. He further notes that the man has to eat the chip and cannot drink any water for the next five minutes.

After bout four minutes into the game, the unhoused man gives up, ultimately losing the challenge. However, out of consolation, Harris gave him a prize still. In another part of a clip circulating, the young rapper says, “I just gave him $20, man. Just so y’all know. He lost, though. He lost, though. But, I just gave him $20.”
Despite having his fun with his friends and this unhoused man who accepted the Paqui “One Chip Challenge,” King Harris is facing backlash because their little game literally arrives on the heels of Paqui removing the viral chips from store shelves as of Thursday (September 7), after a teenage boy died.
Reports surfaced after a mother named Lois Wolobah claimed her 14-year-old son, Harris Wolobah, lost his life while performing the viral challenge. The mother said her son ate the chip and then went to the school nurse with a stomachache. Subsequently, he was sent home and passed out in his room. Later, he was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
According to reports, the viral Paqui chip contains seasoning from the Carolina Reaper and the Naga Viper peppers. Both of these peppers are said to be some of the most hottest peppers in the world.
On the Scoville scale (which measure the concentration of capsaicinoids, the enzyme responsible for the “spiciness” of the pepper), the Carolina Reaper has a SHU (Scoville Heat Unit) of 2,200,000, making it the hottest pepper in the world. Meanwhile, the Naga Viper has an SHU of 1,349,000. Elsewhere, the usual Jalapeño pepper has a peak SHU of 8,000.
