In a new interview with Zane Lowe, SZA opened up about the reason she started making music. According to the Grammy nominated artist, she wanted to prove a point to her ex fiancé.
During the conversation she explained how she didn’t plan on choosing music as a career at first. “Some people choose music as a career and they feel very certain about what they’re doing and why they’re doing it. But I was never quite certain because I only did music to prove a point,” Sza shared. Zane then asked her who was she proving a point to at that moment.
Sza responded saying, “when I started making music it was for my ex-fiancé because he was paying for everything. Like my food, my clothes and where I lived. I was so codependent and he was so talented, he’s a designer and all his ex girlfriends were lawyers and business women. And I was a college dropout still bartending at the strip club so I felt like I lacked value. So when I started making it music it was like this thing that I didn’t have to try at but I was like randomly good at.”
Sza recently did an interview with Rolling Stone where she spoke about her previous partner who she was formerly engaged to.
According to the report, SZA didn’t want to share the identity of her ex fiancé but she did say he’s a fashion designer who doesn’t post much on social media. The two split about five or six years ago and dated for a total of 11 years and were engaged for five. Sza says she was really young when her and the mystery man began dating. “I was fresh from high school,” she told the news outlet. Sza then goes on to say how she tends to find herself always being in a long term relationship. “I hate being a long-term b*tch,” SZA adds. While speaking on the topic of dating she spoke about how she has casually dated in the past and brought up how she used to date Drake.
“It wasn’t hot and heavy or anything. It was like youth vibes. It was so childish.”
