“Euphoria” star Sydney Sweeney is clearing up a previous comment she made that she thinks people have completely taken out of context. Back in July, the actress did an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, where she explained how she couldn’t afford to take a break from acting because she hasn’t even made enough money that would cover a six-month hiatus from Hollywood.
Sweeney, who made a reported $25,000 per episode during season one of the HBO show — with a possible increase for season two — became a trending topic on Twitter, with curious fans wondering how one of the most sought-after actresses didn’t have a big enough income to halt projects for half a year. To clarify her previous remark, Sweeney told ELLE in its 2022 Women in Hollywood November issue, “I was asked if I wanted to have a family and I said yes. And then I was asked why I didn’t have one yet, and I was like, I don’t have time to take even, like, a six-month break.”
Sydney Sweeney says she wouldn’t be able to afford a six-month break from acting:
“I don’t have income to cover that. I don’t have someone supporting me… They don’t pay actors like they used to, and with streamers, you no longer get residuals,”

She went on to say that because she’s been working so much, it’s become difficult for her to even think about the idea of starting a family, so her main priority continues to be her career until she gets to a comfortable position in her life where she wouldn’t have to worry about her costs. “I think that being a mother, and a working mother, is really important. I really want to achieve that one day. So I was disappointed that people took my words and changed them [to serve] their own agenda.”
While she’s expected to reprise her role as Cassie Howard for season three of “Euphoria,” which is rumored to commence shooting in early 2023, the 25-year-old was recently announced to have signed up for the upcoming Sony Pictures flick “Barbarella,” which she will also executive produce, according to Deadline.

The motion picture is based on Jean-Claude Forest’s comic book series, which was later turned into a film in 1968 starring Hollywood veteran Jane Fonda. Though there’s no word on who will be directing the upcoming project, the movie has entered its development stage, and Sweeney, so far, is the only person attached to the film, expected to hit theaters sometime next year.
