Singer-songwriter and rapper Swae Lee is criticizing Vice President Kamala Harris and telling fellow Black people, “Do your research … Us voting just ’cause you think she’s Black is not going to end in your favor.”
As we previously shared, on Sunday (July 21), President Joe Biden officially announced that he was backing out of the 2024 race to focus on finishing his current presidential term. He said, “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term. I will speak to the Nation later this week in more detail about my decision. For now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who have worked so hard to see me reelected.”
After his big announcement, Biden officially endorsed VP Harris, stating, “My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump.”
VP Kamala Harris has since received tons of support and donations from millions of Black people, including former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. However, VP Kamala Harris has also received much criticism from other Black people, such as comedian and controversial YouTuber Charleston White and now singer/rapper Swae Lee.
Taking to his official account on X (formerly Twitter), Swae Lee shared his concerns with VP Kamala Harris and essentially told Black people, “Do not vote for Kamala!!! Do your research on that whole camp.” He continued by sharing a video clip of former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI), a Hindu-American, dragging Kamala Harris’ duties as former California Attorney General and more during the 2019 Democratic presidential debate. Reacting, Swae Lee said, “Y’all better pay attention! There’s a lot more.”
Responding to Lee’s criticism of Kamala Harris, one user said he should do his research on former President Donald Trump and his “not caring for Black people or anyone else but himself,” Lee continued to blast off, “You better go look at the things. Trump did for Blacks. He’s actually done more than Biden and 80% of others. The media portrays it one way. The facts are right there to access. I will make a list tomorrow if you need …I used to not pay attention but that last sleepy guy did damage.”
Lee shared another post and said, “I pay over millions in tax dollars every year. This man [Joe Biden] sent it to a whole ‘nother country!!!!!!!!! Those lil’ dollars that come off your checks, they gave it away!!!!!!! Think about that sh*t.” One user said, “Every president does that,” and Lee replied, “I don’t think you realize the BILLIONS.” He again replied and said, “It’s time it stops, he gave away billions upon billions. Why are we sitting here hurting in this country? So many people are hungry. You remember who gave the stimulus and PPP loans, right?”
In another post, Lee said, “The money we sent away every American citizen could’ve got minimal 200 grand. Think about that. But I guess we don’t need the sh*t 🤷🏽♂️ and y’all standing for Kamala. My Black people, she don’t do nothing but sign off on things against y’all ….(us) voting just ’cause you think she’s Black is not going to end in your favor.” When a user claimed that Lee just “needs that money,” he replied, “It ain’t about money, bro. I been had money, but America and hurting people need that money.”

Another user replied, “Hate when you rapper n***as only get your politics from other n***as planted in your life for these exact moments in history.” Swae Lee again told people to do their research on VP Kamala Harris, stating, “Bro, you voting for her ’cause you think she’s Black. She’s Black and Indian. She don’t lean to the Black side, she just took annestate [?] away from a Black woman. Y’all don’t research. Go look at what Trump did for Blacks, HBCUs, all types of sh*t. The media don’t show everything, bro.”
Another user replied and said, “Trump didn’t do nothing for HBCUs and HBCUs are under NAACP type of sellouts,” Lee replied, “Just stop, please. Y’all are clueless.” He also attached a screenshot of a December 2019 AP News article reporting on Trump signing a bipartisan bill to “permanently provide more than $250 million a year to the nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities, along with dozens of other institutions that serve large shares of minority students.” Trump said, “HBCUs have never had better champions in the White House. When I took office, I promised to fight for HBCUs and my administration continues to deliver.”
