Supreme Court Rejects Appeal Of Former Officer Derek Chauvin In The Killing Of George Floyd

On Monday, the US Supreme Court made a significant decision regarding the case of Derek Chauvin, the former Minneapolis police officer who was convicted for the murder of George Floyd. Chauvin’s legal defense had requested the highest court in their nation to take up their client’s case, arguing that he was denied a fair trial in 2021 due to prejudice resulting from pretrial publicity.

“This criminal trial generated the most amount of pretrial publicity in history,” Chauvin’s attorney William Morhmann said at the time of the appeal. “More concerning are the riots which occurred after George Floyd’s death (and) led the jurors to all express concerns for their safety in the event they acquitted Mr. Chauvin — safety concerns which were fully evidenced by surrounding the courthouse in barbed wire and National Guard troops during the trial and deploying the National Guard throughout Minneapolis prior to jury deliberations.”

Despite their attempt, the Supreme Court rejected this appeal, upholding Chauvin’s conviction. It was said the Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal without explanation. By rejecting this appeal, the Supreme Court has affirmed that Chauvin received a fair trial despite his legal team’s scrutiny surrounding his case. The former Minneapolis police officer is serving a sentence of more than two decades in prison.

Last week, Chauvin also filed a motion to vacate his 21-year sentence for federal charges for violating Floyd’s civil rights, a sentence he’s serving concurrently with the 22-and-a-half years he was hit with for his state murder charges.

As we previously reported, Geiger Floyd, who was Black, was killed by police on 25 May 2020, igniting global protests calling for his murderers to be brought to justice and an end to police brutality and racism worldwide. Chauvin, who is white, pressed his knee on Floyd’s neck for 9 1/2 minutes outside the convenience store where Floyd was suspected of trying to use a counterfeit $20 bill.

As a result of his horrific crime, Hennepin County Judge Peter Cahill sentenced Chauvin after jurors found him guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

  1. Chauvin murdered a BLACK MAN (GEORGE FLOYD) in cold blood, in broad daylight for the whole wide world to see. He thought because he was white and a police officer he would get away with it. He should have been charged 1st degree murder instead of 2nd degree murder, it just goes to show u how much BLACK LIVES in this country really DON’T MATTER. I am glad the supreme court denied his appeal. Since he has been in prison he was stabbed 22 times, it just goes to show u the RULE of LIFE applies to everyone even RACIST COPS like Chauvin, U REAP WHAT U SOW, whatever u put out there is what u get back

  2. Lol…he died due to a drug overdose you foolish people. His family never even went to pay his back rent or get his belongings. He was a criminal who had a very serious addiction problem. The left used this to their benefit, burned down the 3rd precinct(after the police took everything out of the building that they wanted to keep as it was full of artifacts).
