#Socialites, do you agree with this study’s results? Apparently, researchers discovered that single women are way more happier than single men. The study suggests that being in a relationship is harder work for women than it is for their male counterparts.

The study, which was conducted by data analysts at Mintel, showed that 61 percent of women are happier when they are single versus 49 percent of single men. The survey also found that 75 percent of the women who were happier being single were not actively looking for a relationship in the last year, versus 65 percent of single men.

It is noted that the most noticeable difference was seen in participants aged between 44 and 65. 32 percent of women in those age groups were most happy being single, while only 19 percent of men in those age groups felt the same way.

Speaking on the study’s findings, which studied both men and women in the United Kingdom, Dr. Emily Grundy, a professor at the University of Essex, broke down the reasoning behind the results. Dr. Grundy essentially said that women in relationships tend to put in more effort and labor than men in relationships.

Dr. Grundy told The Telegraph, “There’s evidence that women spend longer on domestic tasks than men and I think they also do more emotional work – so they still do more housework and cooking and things as well as more emotional labor.”

She shared that women: spend more time and money on up-keeping their appearance; do more chores; and put in more effort into problem solving and quelling arguments. So, being that a relationship amounts to another full-time job for women, they better appreciate their time being single.

Dr. Grundy also expressed that men, in most cases, tend to rely on their partners, while their female counterparts are more likely to a close set of friends and social circles that they can fall back on for support, advice, venting, etc.

Dr. Grundy added, Women tend to be better at having alternative social networks and other confidantes whereas men tend to rely quite heavily on their wives for that and have fewer other social ties. Certainly, there’s a common finding from a lot of studies that women who don’t have a partner tend to do more social activities and [have] more friends. So it may be that women have a wider range of alternatives.
