Stephen A. Smith recently made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, and shared a few words about Ja Morant. During the discussion Smith said people in the NBA are worried that Ja Morant won’t be alive in 5 years if he continues with his behavior and doesn’t change his environment.
“I’m from the streets of New York City and a lot of players I know are from the streets period.” He started by saying. “And I can tell you that people within the NBA community are not just concerned about Ja Morant playing basketball. They’re concerned about whether or not he’s going to be alive in 5 years because of the environments that he finds himself around and the situations he finds himself confronted by. It’s a serious matter and it’s something that I think the NBA and everybody that knows anything about the kind of things that are going on with him find themselves concerned about.”
Stephen A. Smith’s recent comments come after the NBA commissioner, Adam Silver addressed the media yesterday and revealed the NBA has already made a decision on what Morant’s punishment will be but won’t announce it until after the NBA finals.
“We look at both the history of prior acts, and we look at the individual player’s history as well,” Silver said. “And the seriousness of course of the conduct… In terms of the timing, we’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information… We probably could have brought it to a head now, but we made the decision, and I believe the player association agrees with us, that it would be unfair to these players and these teams to announce in the middle of this series to announce the results of that investigation.”
Ja Morant has been very silent while all of this going on. The NBA player, recently made headlines when he attempted to get back on the internet and post a cryptic message to his Instagram story which had fans concerned about his mental health.
