Stefon Diggs Speaks With Reporters For The First Time Since Felony Charges
Stefon Diggs spoke with reporters on Friday for the first time since felony charges connected to a Dec. 2 incident involving a personal chef in Dedham, Massachusetts became public.
The New England Patriots wide receiver addressed the media inside the team’s locker room. Diggs apologized to reporters for his recent absence and acknowledged that the past few weeks have been difficult.
He said the situation has been a “very emotional time.”
Diggs stated that he could not comment on the legal matter because it remains an open case.
“It’s definitely an open case so I can’t even say anything about it,” Diggs stated. He explained that he would only answer questions related to football during the media availability. Diggs Says He Is Focused on Football Amid Ongoing Legal Case
During the interview, Diggs emphasized that his focus remains on football and completing the season with his team. He said he plans to continue approaching the remainder of the season the same way he always has.
“I’m going to continue to be the guy I’ve been. Try to finish the season strong. We all deal with life stuff, family stuff… being a football team is hard. You band together, you lean on your brothers, you lean on your people that you spend the most time with.”
Diggs did not take questions related to the allegations or the ongoing investigation. He reiterated that he would not comment on the case itself. The Patriots have not restricted Diggs from speaking publicly, but he limited his remarks to football-related topics.
Details of the Charges Against Stefon Diggs
According to court documents, Diggs is facing charges of felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery. The charges stem from an alleged incident that occurred on Dec. 2 at Diggs’ home in Massachusetts.
The accuser, who identified herself as Diggs’ personal chef, told police that she had been in an ongoing text conversation with Diggs regarding money she claimed he owed her. She stated that she was hired as his personal chef for the season and was staying in a room at his home at the time of the incident.
According to a police report from Dedham, the woman alleged that a confrontation occurred over the money. “She said that they began to discuss this, which apparently angered the male,” police noted in the report. “She alleges that the male then smacked her across the face. She said that she tried to push him away. The male then tried to choke her using the crook of his elbow around her neck.”
The woman told police she had difficulty breathing following the alleged incident. The police report also stated that she did not take photographs to document her claimed injuries.
Diggs Denies Allegations Through His Attorney
Stefon Diggs has denied the allegations.
In a statement released by his attorney, David Meier, Diggs rejected the claims made against him.
“Stefon Diggs categorically denies these allegations. They are unsubstantiated, uncorroborated, and were never investigated — because they did not occur,” Meier said.
Meier stated that the allegations stemmed from a financial dispute between Diggs and the accuser.
“The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employee-employer financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction. Stefon looks forward to establishing the truth in a court of law.”
The New England Patriots released a statement following the charges, saying, “We support Stefon.”
