Peter Myers of the Health Facility Education and Quality branch of CDPHE explained:
“The department received numerous complaints, beginning on June 24, 2020, that provided additional information regarding a ketamine administration in August 2019.” He added that “The department launched a complaint investigation which is currently ongoing.”

As we previously reported, McClain died on Aug. 27, 2019, just three days after he went into cardiac arrest following an encounter with Aurora officers. Cops detained him on a “suspicious person” report in the area of Billings Street and East Colfax Avenue. His family explained that McClain had been walking to the store to get iced tea, and would usually wear a face mask when it got cold outside.  As officers held McClain detained while holding him down; with the help of first responders, a 500 mg dose of ketamine was pushed in his shoulder. The coroner was “unable” to find a specific cause of death, however, they didn’t rule out that McClain could have had a negative reaction to the drug.

McClain was just 23-years-old.

Aside from the statement on the new investigation, the spokesman said he could not provide any other details at this time about the complaints or new information that was received. We will continue to keep you updated when more details have been shared.
