Apparently the episode caused Peloton’s stock to crash and the company also received criticism over the scene. But spokesperson Denise Kelly said the company approved the real Peloton instructor Jess King appearance’s on the show but indicated that it didn’t know about the plotline. “HBO procured the Peloton Bike on their own,” Kelly said. “Peloton was aware that a Bike would be used in the episode and that Jess King would be portraying a fictional Peloton instructor,” Buzzfeed quotes.
Despite the blow, in a follow-up statement to TMZ, Peloton tried to give another reason for Mr. Big’s tragic death: “Mr. Big lived what many would call an extravagant lifestyle — including cocktails, cigars and big steaks — and was at serious risk as he had a previous cardiac event in Season 6. These lifestyle choices and perhaps even his family history, which often is a significant factor, were the likely cause of his death.”
Chris Noth has yet to spoke out on his character’s death or the controversy surrounding it.
