Well, Southside is standing by Young Thug’s side!
During a recent appearance on Drink Champs, Southside of 808 Mafia made it real clear that he will not collaborate with Gunna out of respect and loyalty for Young Thug.
Now, Southside didn’t just bring the topic up. When asked if he would ever produce a track for Gunna down the line, Southside said that would not happen. Elaborating on his stance, he said firmly,
“I ain’t making no beats for him. Right is right, wrong is wrong, I’m a street n*a at the end of the day.”
He went on to say:
“Slime been my friend,” Southside noted. “I made ‘Danny Glover’ for him. That blew him up, that’s been my friend when he ain’t had teeth in his mouth. He was signed with Gucci at first, so that’s been my friend for a long time, so I can never go against what he say, like you know what I’m saying?”
He added:
“If he feels some kind of way about it, that’s how he feel. He’s the same way of me. If I feel some kind of way about something with somebody he just ain’t gonna fuck with it, you know what I’m saying? Just cause I feel some kind of way, so I just like I can’t do it.”
He ended by saying:
“My dog is my dog, you know what I’m saying? It is what it is.”
What’s Their Beef?
Well, Gunna and Southside, who collabed back in 2019 with “Gunna Swag” and then again in May 2022 with “Order,” haven’t really had personal beef. But everything changed after Young Thug and Gunna were arrested as part of a sprawling Fulton County RICO indictment, which alleged their YSL crew was a street gang rather than just a record label.
Gunna was released in December before Thug, and since then, he’s been labeled a “snitch” by many in the hip-hop community because he took an Alford plea in the YSL RICO case.
While his plea deal did not involve direct testimony against co-defendants, critics believe his admission to the court about YSL’s nature amounted to “snitching.” Gunna and his legal team, however, deny those claims, insisting he did not cooperate with prosecutors, testify, or have any intention of being a witness in the trial.
