#Socialites, do you agree with Big Draco? Soulja Boy claims that if he would’ve released his 2007 hit “Crank That” in 2023, it would’ve been a bigger hit!
While recently speaking with Kids Take Over, Soulja Boy talked about his legendary career in the music game, what he plans to do next, and so much more. Speaking on the music industry, SB recalled speaking to Ice Spice right before she got signed, went viral, and blew up off of her song “Munch.”
He also explained how he stays tuned into the culture and finds artists right before their big breaks. He said, “I’m the king of the internet. I was the first rapper on YouTube. I just be on the net and tap into it.” SB also talked about Yeat popping off and how he and the rapper could make some musical magic together.
He was also asked to give any advice to these new artists on the rise and said, “Watch your homies. Watch your homies, for sure. Watch who you hang with. Keep making hits. A lot of people get on and they get comfortable and think they can chill out. Don’t do that. Keep dropping fire. Stay creative. And make sure you’re having fun with it. So, 1) watch your homies. 2) Stay creative, don’t get lazy. And 3) have fun with it.”
He also noted that there will be a lot of mistakes made, “especially if you’re coming into the industry as a teenager.” He explained, “You’re gonna make a lot of mistakes coming into the industry, especially if you’re making millions of dollars as a teenager. If you don’t make no mistakes, you’re perfect as f**k. But, you learn from it and just keep going.”
Soulja Boy also talked about being able to reinvent himself every couple of years. While speaking on his 2-year-old hit “She Make It Clap” and being able to go viral again, SB said, “That’s funny. It’s a combination of things. The last wave it was on Twitch, then it was on TikTok. There’s always a new app. I wasn’t on TikTok for a while, but all my music was going viral on there. So, once I got on there, they were like ‘Oh, we can get it direct from the source now.’ So, that’s when ‘She Make It Clap’ came, the ‘Ricky Morty.’ It’s crazy ’cause now I have new fans that are younger. So, now we got fans that are 14, 16, 13, that weren’t even born when ‘Crank That’ came out. It’s crossing over to the next generation. It’s crazy.”
Later, SB talked about all of the businesses that he currently runs. He said, “I’ve got my own record label, SODMG Records. I’ve got my own clothing line, SODMG brand. I’ve got my own video game company, Soulja Boy Game TRDR Pocket. I’ve got my own cologned, SBoy by Draco. I got my cologne, I’ve got perfumes. I got sodas, Soulja Boy sodas. I’ve got blunts, Smoke Signatures, shout out to Smoke Signatures, my boy T.I., we put that together.” Soulja said he has about 4-6 businesses in total but is also looking to enter into more industries.

When asked what other lanes he’s looking to dominate next, SB said was hesitant to share his exclusive ideas but said, “Cars. The next Elon Musk. Soulja Car. Just like Elon Musk. I might rebrand. I’m thinking SODMG Cars now. First, everything was Soulja, Soulja, Soulja. Now we going SODMG. Shout out to Elon Musk. I want to be the Black Elon Musk. The Black Steve Jobs, rest in peace. The Black Bill Gates.” SB claimed Kanye West is not the Black Steve Jobs, he is.
In addition to speaking on some of his most viral memes, Soulja Boy talked about his first-ever viral hit “Crank That” which was his breakout song that made him the star he is today. When asked how he would recreate the success he achieved from the track today, SB said he would go straight to TikTok.
He added, “I’m going straight to TikTok, we’re going viral. I would’ve went more viral right now than I did back then. Actually, the f***ing numbers and sh*t that I did back then is f***ing legendary and amazing compared to today’s, from the technology that I was using. I had Limewire, that’s it? Imagine if I had TikTok! What the f**k? You know how many people would’ve been doing the ‘Crank That’ dance? I didn’t have a lot of these apps.”
When asked if he really believed that “Crank That” would’ve been bigger in 2023 versus 2007, Soulja Boy said, “Don’t you? This was Limewire, this was before streaming, really. This was still in iTunes and ringtones. Now, we in streaming. You’ve got Instagram Reels, [YouTube] Shorts, etc.” SB even revealed that he’s still making tons of money off of his breakout hit. He said, “F**k yes! Because the trick was I produced the song and wrote it. So, I got my 100% of all the publishing”
