Helping kick off the first night of the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Monday (July 15), Michigan Congressman John James proudly supported former President Donald Trump and caught some heat after boasting, “You ain’t Black if you don’t vote Donald Trump.” Reactions on social media are plentiful, including one person who fired off, “Said the only Black man in the room.”
Just two days after his assassination attempt at his rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, former President Donald Trump strolled into the 2024 RNC with his right ear bandaged, but he wasn’t the only person whose appearance at the political event went viral.
Former reality TV star Amber Rose was there and went full MAGA for 45, telling the crowd how “the media lied to us about Donald Trump.” Rose continued to tell viewers, “I realized Donald Trump and his supporters don’t care if you’re Black, white, gay, or straight, it’s all love. And that’s when it hit me — these are my people, this is where I belong.” She ended her speech by telling viewers in-house and at home how our country is in trouble and to vote for Donald Trump to “Make America Great Again.”
In addition to Amber Rose going all out for support for Donald Trump, Representative John James (R-MI) went H.A.M. for the GOP nominee and told the crowd at the 2024 RNC, “If you don’t vote for Donald Trump, you ain’t Black.”
James, who is Black, tried to mock a crude joke previously made by President Joe Biden in 2020, where he stated in an interview, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t Black.” Biden later apologized after much backlash.
A viral clip of Rep. John James shows him telling the RNC crowd, “I heard a little earlier today; if you don’t vote Donald Trump, you ain’t Black.” James also claimed that Democratic policies get in the way of people’s aspirations. He stated, “We can once again have a land where hard work truly does get you ahead. We can once again have a land where you can go from poverty to prosperity in a single generation.”
Since his “you ain’t Black if you don’t vote Donald Trump” comments, Rep. John James has been dragged online, notably because he appeared to be one of hardly any Black people in the RNC building.
