Social Media Reacts To Chris Rock Addressing Will Smith’s Oscars Slap During Netflix Special

Almost one year after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, the comedian certainly didn’t hold back as he addressed the infamous viral moment in his Netflix special, “Selective Outrage” on Saturday night.

Rock, who became the first person to perform a live stand-up comedy special on the streaming platform, didn’t disappoint with his material while saving the best for last. For the final five minutes of the show, Rock went off on Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith by calling out her entanglement with August Alsina, which the couple went on to publicly address in an episode of “Red Table Talk.”

“Will Smith practices selective outrage,” the “Death at a Funeral” star said. “Everybody that really knows I had nothing to do with that s—. I didn’t have any ‘entanglements.’” As we previously reported, in July 2020, Pinkett-Smith came forward and admitted to formerly once a relationship with Alsina during a time when she and Smith were said to have been having marital issues.

But Rock was nowhere near done with his line-up of jokes aimed at the couple, as he continued, “We all been cheated on. Everybody in this industry has been cheated on. None of us have ever been interviewed by the person that cheated on us on television. None of us. … Why the f— would you do that s—? She hurt him way more than he hurt me, okay?”

Just months before Alsina first spoke about sharing a romance with Pinkett-Smith, the “I Am Legend” actor had sat down for an interview with Gayle King in March 2020, claiming that he and his wife had never cheated on one another. He also asserted that whenever there was an issue in their household, they would talk about it — but “we have never surprised one another with anything ever.” Interestingly enough, while it was initially reported that Rock was ignoring Smith after the Oscars debacle, the “Madagascar” actor said he tried to get in contact with him but Smith didn’t answer his calls.

Rock also touched on getting slapped during the live awards ceremony, insisting that Smith had only targeted him because he knew Rock wasn’t someone that could beat him in a physical altercation. “Everybody. And who’s he hit? Me, a n—- he knows he can beat. That is some bitch-ass s—,” he told the crowd.

The father of two didn’t seem to have any remote about the joke he made at last year’s Academy Awards about Pinkett-Smith sporting a buzzcut hairstyle. The talk show host has been open about her battle with alopecia, which she was diagnosed with back in 2018 — and while many thought that commenting on her hair was out of line when he referred to her as G.I. Jane (Demi Moore’s character from the 1997 film), Rock begged to differ.

“I did some jokes about her. Who gives a f—? That’s how it is: She starts it, I finish it,” he stressed. “That’s what the f— happened. Nobody’s pickin’ on this b**ch. She started this s—. Nobody was pickin’ on her.”
