According to Vice, thousands of women shared their horror stories involving DevaCurl products on social media after one of their brand ambassadors, Ayesha Malik, stated her hair became severely damaged after using the products for years. Malik said she is suffering from hair loss, dandruff, and a loose curl pattern in her video’s description.

“I am suffering from severe hair and scalp issues. I used to recommend DevaCurl, but not anymore.”

On Twitter, user @princessfabby posted a before and after photo of the alleged damage caused by the products and encouraged her followers to stop using them.

I can’t believe my hair is the same length today as it was in April 2018 (left) after my first Big Chop to grow my curls out for the first time after 13 years of straightening. On the right was 1 year later before I restocked my @devacurl products and my hair became ruined over the following 6 months until in October I finally had to cut it even SHORTER than the photo on the left. So now, almost 2 full years later, I’m back at square 1 again. I did everything right. I stuck with the brand I trusted and used exclusively and it became toxic. I feel robbed…but I would start over again every day if every time I did it meant another person would realize the cause of their hair loss, scalp issues and hair damage and discontinue using the products. I’m so grateful my message reached @spisha who has now taken my message and amplified it times hundreds of thousands. In 72 hours the Facebook group of mine she joined a few months ago that made her realize what happened to her hair has grown from 4K to 12K because of the awareness she has raised. It just goes to show how important it is to speak up when you know something isn’t right- even if you dont have a perfect explanation yet. We have evidence. We have stories. We have influence. Let’s use it to do some good. Who will be the next domino to tip?

A brave member of my DevaCurl victim Facebook group shared these powerful images recently. The left is her hair before @devacurl and the right is 6 months after beginning to use the products. Like me, she had to shave her head, but the damage that lied beneath was much more severe (swipe). Her hair is filling back in now that she’s discontinued use of every product she had from them. She gave me permission to share these photos so that hopefully we can reach more people who may still be using the products, having symptoms of hair loss or damage, who we could help consider DevaCurl as a cause before it gets this bad. Comments are off because this beautiful, strong woman has been through enough – I will not let her be subject to the deniers and naysayers who simply like to watch the world burn and kick people when they’re down. I have revoked your powers! Go do something else. Everyone else: SHARE WITH EVERYONE YOU KNOW. The FDA doesn’t care and legal action is going slow….so we have to do our part. Help end this nightmare by raising awareness. Even if you help just one person stop before they do damage that can’t be repaired – it is worth speaking up.❤️🙏 #Devacurl #RecallDEVACURL
