Snoop Dogg has had a change of heart as he partners with GLAAD and uses his animated children’s show to support LGBTQ+ families after previously criticizing the ‘Lightyear‘ movie for depicting a same-sex couple.
As we previously shared, Snoop spoke out about his experience taking his grandson to the movies and having a hard time trying to explain how two women could have a baby together. While appearing on the August 20 episode of the ‘It’s Giving Podcast,’ Snoop recalled the plot of the movie, ‘Lightyear.’
The 2022 ‘Toy Story‘ spinoff includes a scene featuring two women raising a child. It also features Disney and Pixar’s first same-sex kiss. While recalling the incident with his grandson, Snoop mentioned Keke Palmer starring in the film as the daughter. He continued:
“So, we’re watching it and the lady, which is Keke’s momma, they move on into Space years, they moved down the line. They’re like, ‘Then she had a baby with a woman.’ Well, my grandson is in the middle of the movie like, ‘Papa Snoop, how’d she have a baby with a woman when she’s a woman?’
[I’m like,] ‘Awe sh*t. I didn’t come here for this sh*t. I came to watch the goddamn movie.’ [I tell him,] ‘Aye man, watch the movie.’ [He said,] ‘Uhn uhn. They just said, ‘she and she had a baby.’ They both women. How did she have a baby?’ [I told him,] ‘Shhh. The movie ain’t over with.’
So, it’s like, it f**ked me up. I’m scared to go to the movies, now. Like, y’all throwing me in the middle of sh*t that I don’t have an answer for.”

TS Madison Slams Snoop Dogg After He Criticized ‘Lightyear’ Movie Depicting Same-Sex Couple
Following Snoop Dogg’s criticism of the ‘Lightyear‘ movie depicting a same-sex couple, transgender activist and TV and internet personality TS Madison slammed the rapper. While appearing on TMZ Live, Madison stated that she believes Snoop’s comments were rooted in homophobia. She first slammed Snoop by mentioning his previous hyper-sexualized music videos. She stated:
“Snoop Dogg has historically been an advocate against censoring, and his fame is based on expression. So my question is, Snoop. You have music videos with women dancing and kissing other women, dancing naked. So why is displaying lesbian behavior in your music videos appropriate? And you are afraid to answer the questions from your grandchildren?”
Madison did end up acknowledging that Snoop’s music videos were intended and geared towards adults. However, she emphasized that kids still see everything despite age-gating. She explained that it’s on the parents and grandparents to educate their children and grandkids about people who live different lifestyles other than shown at home. She continued:
“As a parent, you should also explain to your children that other things exist in the world outside of what you have deemed normal in your own home. It’s rooted in a bit of homophobia because you’re never afraid to talk to your kids about having a little boyfriend or a little girlfriend at a certain age. I know that we’ve been conditioned to be able to, like, understand heteronormative activity. We’ve been conditioned because that’s all we see. We’ve always, as queer people, been pushed to the side and swept under. So it is time for us to have these uncomfortable conversations.”
Snoop Dogg Uses His Animated Children’s Show To Support LGBTQ+ Families After ‘Lightyear’ Same-Sex Couple Controversy
Since all of the controversy in August, Snoop Dogg has partnered with GLAAD to support Spirit Day, the LGBTQ+ youth anti-bullying initiative. As part of the campaign, Snoop spoke with ‘The Voice‘ alum Jeremy Beloate. The singer is a member of the LGBTQ+ community and was was part of Team Snoop on the NBC reality series.
Together, the two sat for a Spirit Day conversation. They discussed their recent collaboration on a new song titled “Love Is Love,” which is featured in Snoop’s animated children’s YouTube series, ‘Doggyland.’ Speaking with Beloate, Snoop said:
“It’s a beautiful thing that kids can have parents of all walks and be shown love, to be taught what love is…being able to have parents from all walks of life, whether it be two fathers, two mothers, whatever it is, love is the key.
‘Love is Love’ is teaching parenthood, it’s teaching the situation that kids and the world is going through right now in a beautiful way — through song, dance, melody — and just trying to get more understanding, clarity, on how we live and the way we live. And I felt like this music is a beautiful bridge to bring an understanding.
This is a program that we’ve been doing for years, where we involve kids, and these are things that kids have questions about. So now, hopefully, we can help answer these questions and help them to live a happy life and understand that love is love.”
In Snoop’s children’s show, Beloate voices a puppy named “Zippy.” The pup joins the others in Doggyland to sing “Love Is Love.” The song celebrates the love shared among all of the various families in Doggyland. Meanwhile, Snoop voices “Bow Wizzle,” one of the show’s main characters. On the screen of the episode, the following words appear:
“Our parents are different / No two are the same / But the one thing that’s for certain is the love won’t change,” the pups sing, as several same-sex couples appear on screen. “Families are special / They are so unique / Everybody’s got a purpose, more than what you see / We love you, parents / We love you so.”
In a statement about the new partnership and song, Snoop said:
“At the end of the day, it’s all about love — that’s what we’re teachin’ the kids with ‘Love Is Love.’ Partnering with GLAAD for Spirit Day just felt right, because spreading love and respect for everybody is what real gangstas do. We’re showin’ the next generation that kindness is cool, inclusion is powerful, and love always wins.”
