Smokey Robinson is officially under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after multiple women stepped forward accusing the legendary singer of sexual assault.

According to TMZ, three alleged victims — all women — filed police reports with the department last Friday. The special victims unit has now launched a criminal investigation into the disturbing claims.

Smokey Robinson Issues A Brief Response to $50M Lawsuit Filed by Former Housekeepers

The investigation is reportedly still in its early stages, but it follows hot on the heels of a $50 million civil lawsuit filed against Smokey by four women who say they worked for him as housekeepers.

Victims’ Lawyers React: “They’re Seeking Justice For Themselves And Others”

Attorneys John Harris and Herbert Hayden, who are representing the three women, shared a powerful statement about the department’s decision to pursue a criminal case.

“We are pleased to learn that the L.A. County Sheriff’s Dept has opened a criminal investigation into our clients’ claims of sexual assault against Smokey Robinson,” the lawyers said. “Our clients intend to fully cooperate with LASD’s ongoing investigation in the pursuit of seeking justice for themselves and others that may have been similarly assaulted by him.”

This statement marks a significant moment in the unfolding legal saga, signaling that the women involved are determined to push forward despite the pressure and spotlight of a high-profile case.

Their lawsuit, filed earlier this month, details chilling accusations of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, and gender-based violence. They are seeking substantial damages and, according to their legal team, closure and accountability.

Smokey Robinson’s Attorney Responds: “Exposure To The Truth Is A Powerful Thing”

In response to the escalating legal drama, Smokey Robinson’s attorney Christopher Frost issued a lengthy and fiery statement, defending his client against what he calls a media ploy.

“We are aware that a police report has now been filed by the Plaintiffs in the civil lawsuit. It is clear to us what is happening here. Plaintiffs filed a police report only after they filed a $50 million lawsuit. This means only that the police are now required to investigate. We welcome that investigation, which involves Plaintiffs who continue to hide their identities, because exposure to the truth is a powerful thing,” Frost said.

“We feel confident that a determination will be made that Mr. Robinson did nothing wrong, and that this is a desperate attempt to prejudice public opinion and make even more of a media circus than the Plaintiffs were previously able to create. The record will ultimately demonstrate that this is nothing more than a manufactured lawsuit intended to tarnish the good names of Smokey and Frances Robinson, for no other reason than unadulterated avarice.”

The Ongoing Lawsuit: Four Jane Does Seek Millions in Damages

This criminal investigation now runs parallel to a civil case filed by four women—identified only as Jane Does—who say they worked as housekeepers for Smokey Robinson.

The suit, which names Robinson and his wife Frances as defendants, accuses them of sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, and even forcing the women into uncomfortable and abusive working conditions.

Each woman claims the misconduct took place during their employment, with some alleging that Smokey used his influence and power to manipulate and isolate them.
