Socialites, get into this! A high school in Texas is planning to reschedule its graduation ceremony after most of the senior class was found ineligible to walk across the stage.

Local news outlet KWTX reported that the Marlin Independent School District decided to push the ceremony back to June to give nearly 30 seniors more time to meet requirements so they can graduate.

So how did this happen? Well, an audit from the district determined that 28 of 33 seniors at Marlin High School did not meet the graduation requirements due to their poor attendance or low grades. Superintendent Darryl Henson said in a statement, “We hold firm to our belief that every student in Marlin ISD can and will achieve their potential. Students will be held to the same high standard as any other student in Texas,” the news site quotes.

So Who Are The 5 Graduates That Actually Eligible To Walk?

Alondra Alvarado who is among the five that met the graduation requirements and was set to enjoy her graduation was left disappointed over the “unfair” change. Telling the KWTX about why the graduation had been rescheduled, “They told us that because of the students that didn’t meet the requirements it wouldn’t be fair for only five students to walk the stage,” Alvarado said.

Meanwhile, Salvador Guerrero who is one of the 28 seniors who could not walk said he got the heartbreaking call he wouldn’t be able to graduate last week. Him, he needed to complete the STAAR test for an online U.S. history course. Unfortunately, that test is not available until the summer, per the outlet. Sharing how he feels about it, he said, “It’s a bag of emotions, anxiety, and a bit of disappointment.”

As many know, graduating is a major milestone in one’s life. It is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication to achieve the necessary grades and complete all the requirements to earn a degree. But what happens if a student fails to meet these requirements? It is important to understand the consequences of not meeting the requirements for graduation so that students can make an informed decision before enrolling in a college or university.

Typically, when one does not meet the requirements they are held back and have to repeat the grade. However, some schools offer exceptions or would allow the students to make it up before they are set to walk.
