A Florida girl was handcuffed and arrested after she kicked a school staff member Thursday.

Click Orlando reports Meralyn Kirkland received a call from Lucious and Emma Academy stating that her granddaughter, Kaia Rolle, was arrested for kicking a staff member. Rolle was acting out in class due to a side effect of her sleeping condition and was sent to the office. As the girl continued to have a meltdown, a staff member grabbed her by the wrists to calm her down and Rolle kicked them out of frustration. Kirkland explained to officer Dennis Turner that Kaia has a sleeping disorder and can lash out when she does not get enough sleep.

“She has a medical condition that we are working on getting resolved, and he says, ”What medical condition?’ ‘She has a sleep disorder, sleep apnea,’ and he says, ‘Well, I have sleep apnea, and I don’t behave like that,'”

Authorities took Roll to the Juvenile Assessment Center and charged her with battery. She also took a mugshot photo and was fingerprinted.

“A literal mug shot of a 6-year-old girl,”

The Orlando Police Department said in a statement that Rolle and another child, an eight-year-old, was arrested from the school that day and officers are required to have approval from their watch commander before arresting anyone under the age of 12. An investigation is underway.

Now, Kaia has a pending court date and her grandmother is currently dealing with the aftermath of her grandaughter’s arrest.

“No 6-year-old child should be able to tell somebody that they had handcuffs on them and they were riding in the back of a police car and taken to a juvenile center to be fingerprinted, mug shot,”
