Loomis is keeping her head held high after a challenging rendition of the national anthem at the Free & Equal Elections Foundation presidential debate.

In case you missed it, the singer took the stage during Thursday’s live-streamed event. While she confidently delivered the first few lines of the song, she became overwhelmed as she attempted to hit the higher notes. With her voice cracking, she paused mid-performance to request a do-over. “I f—ed it up. I f—ed it up. Can I go back, can I go back, please?”

As the clip circulated online, social media users quickly flooded timelines with memes, jokes, and of course comparisons to Fergie’s infamous 2018 performance, where she too butchered the national anthem. However, Loomis is not allowing this moment to deter her from pursuing her passion. In response to the criticism, she shared, “Fergie is a great singer and she is fabulous. It happened to us and I feel honored… that’s how I feel.” Instead of dwelling on the negative feedback, she is focusing on the support she has received from her fans. “It feels empowering to know that fans have my back and understand that this happens and can still see through my biggest embarrassment and mistake. Still be able to see my talent and I’m just grateful—little embarrassed, lol—but definitely grateful.”

Loomis went on to share that she’s turning this experience into a positive one, stating, “I’m using this spotlight to not only show people that even if you’re scared of something and you do it anyway, and you fail, something good can come out of it. I’m taking this time to put my music out and show the world who Loomis really is as an artist.”

So what’s next for Loomis? She tells us, “They can look out for real music to finally be back in the music industry. Keep a lookout for my album and all upcoming performances and tour.”
