Simone Biles Withdraws From Vault And Uneven Bars Final At Tokyo 2020 Olympics

Simone Biles will be withdrawing from two more Olympic final events due to concerns surrounding her mental health.

A statement released on the official USA Gymnastics Twitter page confirmed Biles’ withdrawal from the event finals for vault and uneven bars during the Olympics on Sunday. It reads, “After further consultation with medical staff, Simone Biles has decided to withdraw from the event finals for vault and the uneven bars. She will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether to compete in the finals for floor exercise and balance beam.”

In Biles’ place, Mykayla Skinner will compete in the vault finals with Jade Carey. Both women had the highest scores in vault during qualifications.

According to the New York Post, Skinner said she was excited to fill in for Biles and wrote, “Can’t wait to compete in vault finals. Doing this for us @simonebiles It’s go time baby!”

As previously reported, Biles withdrew from events after she said her mind was not in the right space while competing. However, officials say they will continue to monitor her mental health daily for any improvements.
