A shooting at the annual festival has left one person injured.

Austin, TX PD reports that at least one person was left injured and one suspect’s been detained after a shooting erupted on Saturday night (Mar. 16) at the 2019 SXSW (South by Southwest) festival.

While taking place at the corner of 6th Street and San Jacinto, festival attendee Matthew Carey told Deadline, “There was loud pop that I heard. There was a pause of a second or two, then the people in the crowd started shouting ‘a shooting,’ and everybody started running.”

In addition to Carey stating that one person was injured, another eyewitness mentions a suspect was quickly taken away in handcuffs by APD, “They were on the guy within a minute.” The official APD Twitter account confirmed each witnesses statements, and added that a search remains for others involved; the investigation continues.

Saturday night’s shooting, eerily follows a similar incident to last year’s festival, where gunshots were fired into a crowd on the last day of the event. #Socialites, join us in sending prayers to the injured victim.
