Sheriff Says Brian Laundrie ‘Probably’ Died by Suicide Before Search Started

Sarasota County Sheriff Kurt Hoffman revealed that Brian Laundrie most likely committed suicide way before the search for him even began.

As we reported, his skeletal remains were discovered last month but the 23-year-old’s autopsy has still come back inconclusive with his cause of death. His remains were matched by using dental records. It is not clear why only skeletal remains were left behind.

The Sarasota HeraldTribune reports that the sheriff held a conference with reporters to discuss the case,

“We talked probably 20 times during that situation and obviously we supported them out in the preserve looking for Brian Laundrie,” Hoffman said.

“That guy went out there and by all accounts probably committed suicide and he was right out there where we thought he was,” Sheriff Hoffman added. “There was four feet of water out there at the time.”

Laundrie was the main suspect for the murder of influencer Gabby Petito whose body was found in Wyoming in September. Her autopsy revealed that she died from strangulation.

Laundrie and Petito had set out on a cross-country road trip together in June, sharing their journey on social media before their shocking demise.
