Shazam and Billy are back — and this time, they’re not the only ones with superpowers. In Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Billy and his foster siblings step fully into their heroic roles.
Hollywood Unlocked was on the red carpet for the premiere of the highly anticipated DC sequel, where we caught up with the cast to talk about family, foster care, and what’s next for the Shazam family.
One standout theme in this film is that even with incredible powers, family remains at the heart of it all. Shazam! is one of the few superhero franchises to highlight the foster care experience. In the first film, audiences were introduced to Billy Batson — who transforms into Shazam, played by Zachary Levi and Asher Angel — and his foster siblings, each with the ability to transform into a superpowered adult by uttering the magic word.

The returning cast includes Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Freddy Freeman; Grace Caroline Currey as Mary Bromfield; Ross Butler and Ian Chen as Eugene Choi; D.J. Cotrona and Jovan Armand as Pedro Peña; and Meagan Good and Faithe Herman as Darla Dudley.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods dives deeper into real-life issues, including aging out of the foster care system and the emotional challenges that come with it. We spoke with the cast about how the film portrays the unique bonds within a foster family — and how it brings a refreshing level of diversity and representation to the superhero genre.
