A parasailer who was over the Red Sea was injured after a shark randomly jumped out of the water and bit him in the foot.

The incident occurred off the coast of Aqaba, Jordan last week where the 37-year-old victim was transported to the Prince Hashem Military Hospital for treatment. He underwent emergency surgery on his right foot after sustaining injuries from torn muscles, severed tendons, and broken bones despite being listed in stable condition. According to Yahoo! News, the man also lost a part of the back of his foot.
It was unclear what kind of shark attacked the victim but there has been an increased number of shark attacks in the Red Sea.

Diving expert Mohammad Qatawnehh of the Aqaba International Diver Center said that the incident could’ve taken place anywhere but it has caused the public to be fearful of the incident.
“The shark attack garnered a lot of media attention; truthfully, it scared a lot of people, but this is something that can take place anywhere, I’ve been diving for 20 years and this is the first time I’ve heard of a shark attack.”
