Shanghai Disneyland Sells Out Of Tickets On First Day Open Since COVID-19 Shutter

On Monday (May 4), Shanghai Disneyland park sold out of tickets in three minutes on its first day open since shuttering for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis on January 25.

While the park normally rakes in about 80,000 visitors per day, China’s government has limited the capacity to approximately 30%, or about 24,000 visitors.

The park is also still taking safety precautions, as they are requiring guests to purchase their admission tickets prior to their arrival, and making annual pass holders make reservations; in addition to requiring masks throughout the park, except while dining. Disney is also looking to implement the government-issued Shanghai Health QR code, which is a contact tracing and early detection system being used in China.

Furthermore, regarding this week’s earnings update call, Disney’s Executive Chairman and former CEO Bob Iger shared, “People want good news. They want to experience joy and the feeling of togetherness.”
