Earlier this month, Sexyy Red teased a remake to MJ’s iconic 1982 track “Beat It,” calling it “Just Eat It.” According to reports, the track was first shared by fellow rapper Lil Yachty, on his burner Instagram account during the early hours of February 11.
In the brief clip, the “Pound Town” rapper was in the studio previewing her rendition, dancing and lip-syncing, as the track played loudly over the speakers. As for the lyrics, well, by the name alone, you could tell what she was referencing and talking about.
But from the snippet, you could hear her rapping:
“I told your a** don’t ever come around here
If you ain’t puttin’ c**chie juice up on your beard
It’s a barbecue, I’m finna put it on your grill
Just eat it, just eat it
You better not nut fast ’cause I hate a minute man
And if that d*ck is trash, I’m tellin’ all my friends
I’ll beat your a**, know we ’bout to throw them hands
Just eat it, just eat it
B*tch, quit actin’ like you scared just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
Oh, I love them eaters, eaters
C**chie not funky and it’s super tight
I’m tryna get my c**chie atе out tonight
Just eat it, just eat it
Just eat it, just еat it, yeah.”
Michael Jackson’s Estate Condemns Sexyy Red’s Cover Of ‘Beat It,’ Says ‘Use Of His Music Was Unauthorized’
Immediately after the snippet surfaced, the track received backlash from Michael Jackson fans, and eventually his estate. MJ fans argued that the St. Louis rapper ruined the iconic popstar’s hit due to her vulgar lyrics. Within 24 hours of Sexyy Red’s snippet going viral, Michael Jackson’s estate released a statement, condemning it.
According to journalist Loren Lorosa, a spokesperson for Michael Jackson’s estate exclusively told her, “We were totally unaware of this. The use of the music is unauthorized.” Lorosa also added that the MJ estate didn’t seem happy about the cover at all. Taking to X, Lorosa wholly wrote:
“I exclusively spoke to a spokesperson for the Michael Jackson estate on Sexyy Red’s recent cover of “Beat It,” and they were clear that the use of his music was unauthorized…
A spokesperson for MJ’s estate tells me: ‘We were totally unaware of this. The use of the music is unauthorized.’ The estate definitely didn’t seem happy about the cover at all.”
Despite Michael Jackson’s estate condemning her rendition of “Beat It,” Sexyy Red is still turning up and jamming to her “Just Eat It” cover online. In the early hours of Saturday (February 14), the “Get It Sexyy” rapper reposted a video of her again in the studio, dancing to her cover.
While the song again played loudly over the speakers, Sexyy mimicked some of MJ’s dance moves, with her own flair and freestyle. As she danced around, several friends and associates watched. One of the people onlooking, recorded her and shared to their Instagram Story, with the caption, “Here she go 🤣.” Sexyy then reposted the clip to her own IG Story.
