Several Dead In Vienna Terrorist Attack
Several gunmen with rifles have opened fire in six different locations in central Vienna, in what authorities are calling a terrorist attack.
“We are victims of a despicable terror attack in the federal capital that is still ongoing,” Austria’s Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said. “One of the perpetrators was neutralized, but several perpetrators appear to still be on the loose,” he said. “They seem to also, as far as we know, be very well equipped, with automatic weapons. So they were very well prepared.”
As of now, one person is confirmed to have died, but there are believed to be several more fatalities, with many being critically injured. The city’s mayor said 15 people had been wounded, and among the injured is a police officer.
As of now, one gunman was killed, but the rest are still at large. The initial shooting occurred near the city’s central synagogue, however, a motive has not been confirmed.
“The Secretary-General is following with utmost concern the still evolving situation in Vienna’s city centre where violent attacks in several places have been reported today, with at least one bystander killed and several others wounded, including members of the security forces,” read s statement.
