Serena Williams announced that she will not be a part of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Before her match at Wimbledon, Serena Williams confirmed the news at a press conference that she was not on the Olympic list. “I’m actually not on the Olympic list — not that I’m aware of. And if so then I shouldn’t be on it,” she explained to reporters. When asked about why she didn’t want to participate in the games, Williams didn’t disclose ay further details.

“There’s a lot of reasons that I made my Olympic decision and I don’t feel like going into them today. Maybe another day. Sorry.”

Her announcement was made the day before the main-draw action at Wimbledon where this will be her 24th Grand Slam title if she wins the single match. The four-time Olympic gold winner previously said she didn’t think about staying out of the Olympics.

“I have not thought about it. In the past, it’s been a wonderful place for me. I really haven’t thought about it, so I’m going to keep not thinking about it.”
