Selena Gomez attended the 2023 Golden Globes last Sunday looking stunning while walking the red carpet.
The actress wore a beautiful black velvet Valentino Haute Couture gown with fluffed purple sleeves. She wore her hair up in a ponytail while adding diamond drop earrings to top her look. While many people loved her fit of the night, of course, there were some people who had something negative to say. One rude Twitter user said, “Selena Gomez looks kinda fat.” Another agreed and added, “I might not be saying that if the media didn’t insist on praising her larger new look. And maybe it’s not even her fault, could be medication.”
Gomez seemingly caught wind of some of the negative tweets and appeared to respond to them. “I’m a little bit big right now because I enjoyed myself during the holidays,” the Rare Beauty founder said in an Instagram Live after the award show this week. “I mean, come on, right?” Gomez asked her date, little sister Gracie, 9. “Yeah,” Gracie said. Gomez added,
“But we don’t care” as Miley Cyrus‘ song “Do My Thang” started blasting in the car.
Gomez has previously talked about her weight often fluctuating as a result of her lupus treatment. She said on the Giving Back Generation podcast in September 2019:
“It’s the medication I have to take for the rest of my life — it depends on even the month, to be honest. So for me, I really noticed when people started attacking me for that,” she said at the time. “And in reality, that’s just my truth. I fluctuate. It depends what’s happening in my life.”
In 2021, she also told Women’s Wear Daily that she stepped away from Instagram due some of negative comments at the time,
“I felt like my thoughts and everything I was consuming revolved around a million different other people in the world saying good things and bad things. And I just thought, ‘Why would I — I don’t get anything from it. Nothing is giving me life.’ And I just snapped, and I was over it.” However, she added, “I’m completely unaware of, actually, what’s going on in pop culture, and that makes me really happy,” she added. “And maybe that doesn’t make everybody else happy, but for me, it’s really saved my life.”
