In an exclusive with the Daily Mail, a source close to the 30-year-old singer and actor — who dated The Weeknd, 33, for 10 months in 2017 — alleges that Selena is “irked” by the many “uncanny similarities” between her own life and that of “Jocelyn” on ‘The Idol,’ which was created by The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, and ‘Euphoria‘ showrunner Sam Levinson.

The close source said, “The similarities between Selena’s life and Jocelyn’s life are just uncanny. Being [that] she actually dated The Weeknd, it is even more creepy for her. Her real-life pain was used for entertainment value and that really irks her out. Everyone in her team who has known her for a very long time is dumbfounded by this, but at the end of the day Selena is going to do what she always does – rise above and move on.”

As a refresher, the HBO series follows a pop star named “Jocelyn” whose life drastically changes after meeting a nightclub owner and cult leader named “Tedros,” played by The Weeknd.

According to the close source, and even fans online, there are “glaring similarities” that can be seen between the lives of Selena and “Jocelyn.” One of the first alleged similarities is that Selena dated The Weeknd in real life, and “Jocelyn” also falls for him, on-screen.

Additionally, the entire plot of the show is centered around “Jocelyn” and her painful and personal struggles outside of her music career. Apparently, the character’s struggles share “eerie” similarities to the mental and health struggles Selena had dealt with during her relationship with the “Starboy” singer.

Another alleged similarity is that both women rose to the top of their careers from being childhood actors, and that they both have similar mannerisms. It is alleged that one of them is how they both “blow kisses,” something Selena has been photographed doing several times in her singing career.

Additional similarities alleged are how Selena and “Jocelyn” both have very personal relationships with their fans. Selena is known for taking her time to greet her supporters, take pictures, and sign autographs everywhere she goes — which is a similar connection that “Jocelyn” seems to have in ‘The Idol‘ as well.

According to the close source, there are also other deep, dark and disturbing similarities between the two women. In 2015, Selena came under fire when she decided she wanted to go topless for her album cover, ‘Revival.’ In an interview, she fired back, “I am not going to let them get to me.” On the premiere episode of ‘The Idol,’ “Jocelyn” had to fight for her right to do the same, and she told her team, “It’s my body.”

Then in 2016, Selena suffered a mental breakdown after receiving her Lupus diagnosis. She ended up cancelling the last leg of her ‘Revival‘ tour and checked herself into a psychiatric facility. She’d later reveal in her documentary that she was also being overworked and was suffering from exhaustion.

In the HBO show, “Jocelyn” is also forced to cancel her tour after suffering a mental breakdown due to the passing of her mother. While some members of her team said that they were worried she’d have “another psychotic break,” others instead insisted that “she was just exhausted.”

Another alleged similarity is how both women were told to keep their hospital bracelets on for a photoshoot, while dressed in lingerie.
