“It’s been awhile since you have heard from me, but I wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and to thank you for your love and support,” the singer wrote under a series of photos.

“Last year was definitely a year of self-reflection, challenges and growth,” she continued. “It’s always those challenges which show you who you are and what you are capable of overcoming. Trust me, it’s not easy, but I am proud of the person I am becoming and look forward to the year ahead. Love you all.”

This is Selena’s first post on Instagram in almost five months. Back in September, she announced that she was taking a break from social media in part because of some of the negative comments she’d faced on various platforms. A month later, reports surfaced that the actress had been checked into a mental health facility following what some outlets described as an “emotional breakdown.” She reportedly entered the hospital two separate times due to complications from her kidney transplant, and it sent her spiraling emotionally.

Since she left the facility, she’s been spending time with friends an focusing on her health. Selena is also looking forward to releasing her new album this year.
