Selena Gomez admits she ‘lied’ about how she was feeling when posting body-positive content: “All the while, being in the room posting and crying my eyes out”

Selena Gomez has publicly spoken out several times to slam critics who continue to talk about her weight. While it’s always been a positive and confident response, the actress admits that it was different feelings behind her strong words.

In an episode of Apple TV+’s “Dear…” Gomez explained, “My weight would constantly fluctuate because I would be on certain medications. And obviously, people just ran with it,” she said. “It was like they couldn’t wait to find a thing to bring me down. I was being shamed for gaining weight because of my lupus.”

The 30-year-old continued, “I lied. I would go online and I would post a picture of myself and I would say, ‘It doesn’t matter. I’m not accepting what you’re saying,’” she said. “All the while, being in the room posting and crying my eyes out because nobody deserves to hear those things.”

In one instance, Gomez decided to share some positivity while hitting back at critics in February. She said in a TikTok clip: “I just want to say and encourage anyone out there who feels any sort of shame for exactly what you’re going through when nobody knows the real story: You are beautiful and you are wonderful,” she said.

In the episode on AppleTv, Gomez went on to further admit, “Though I was posting these things saying it doesn’t bother me, because I didn’t want it to bother other people who are experiencing the same thing, getting shamed for what they look like, who they are, who they love,” she added. “I just think it’s so unfair. I don’t think that anybody deserves to feel less than.”

As hard as it is, Gomez tries her best to remain positive and spread positivity when she can.

Just recently, the superstar celebrated International Women’s Day this year, with a sweet message dedicated to her younger self.

“Dear younger me, please don’t be afraid to ask for help. I want each of us to be gentler to ourselves. Write your younger self … and stick it on your mirror to remind yourself that you deserve the world. Love you.”
