Qu Yan, 28, was working his normal shift as a security guard at a hospital in China’s Jilin Province when he noticed a young woman threatening to end her life on a fourth-floor balcony. Because firefighters did not arrive, hospital employees attempted to fashion a makeshift net to catch the woman when she jumped, according to Oddity Central. The young woman jumped before they could even reach the net, and Qu Yan dashed forward, grabbing her in his arms.

He was injured all over his body as a result of the violent hit, including his arms and spine, yet he saved the woman’s life. She received minor injuries and was released from the hospital a few days later. Qu Yan is still bedridden a year later, and his family cannot afford his medical expenditures. They tried to contact the young woman’s family, but he was accused of causing her injuries.

“What have you done? Our child is like this now. My child is disabled. If something happens to her, you are also responsible, and you have to bear the responsibility for the rest of your life,” the young woman’s mother said in a video. However, her family faced backlash from users on the platform Billi Billi for their attitude toward Qu Yan and his family. Additionally, Qu Yan was fired from his job due to his injuries.

“There are all kinds of people in the world now, but you still say such things after saving your child,” one user said. Another wrote, “Human feelings are really so cruel, and I paid such a high price for myself to change. It’s so infuriating, why not be grateful?”,

Billi Billi users donated money to help with medical bills and other expenses. Qu Yan said that he was grateful for everyone’s help after the news went viral: “There are still many good people in this world.”Suicide is a tragic phenomenon that has become a major public health concern. It is a leading cause of death worldwide, and its impact can devastate families, friends, and communities. However, there are countless stories of individuals who have been saved from suicide attempts, and their stories offer hope and inspiration to those who may be struggling with suicidal thoughts.

One such story is that of Kevin Hines, who, at 19, attempted to take his own life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. Despite suffering from bipolar disorder and other mental health issues, Hines survived the jump and now works as a mental health advocate, sharing his story with others in the hopes of preventing suicide.

These stories demonstrate the importance of seeking help when experiencing suicidal thoughts. While it may feel overwhelming or impossible at the moment, there is always hope and help available. Seeking support from friends, family, or a mental health professional can be a lifesaving decision.

Many organizations and resources are also available for those struggling with suicidal thoughts or who have been impacted by suicide. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline in the US (1-800-273-TALK) and Samaritans in the UK (116 123) offer confidential support and resources for those in crisis.
