The ex-Giants player was arrested around 9:45 p.m. after Kent police officers responded to a 911 call about a woman who was locked inside of a bathroom while being violently assaulted. Officers reported they forced themselves into the home when they heard the victim screaming from inside and entered the bathroom to find Wheeler and the victim with her face covered in blood. She was transported to a local hospital for a dislocated arm and a bloody nose.

During his arrest, Wheeler was reportedly resisting arrest and continued to yell “Sorry!” The victim explained to detectives that she had been dating the NFL player for six months and he was having one of his manic episodes. Before the assault, he asked her to stand up and bow to him but she told him no. Wheeler grabbed his girlfriend by the neck and threw her onto the bed then proceeded to suffocate her by crushing her mouth and nose with his hand.
