Scientists Reveal Coronavirus Can Spread By ‘Aerosolized Feces’

If it couldn’t get any worse! Scientists have discovered that the Coronavirus can be spread by aerosolized feces, which means that closing the lid of your toilet is highly important during flushing.

According to Forbes, Scientists previously warned that COVID-18 could be spread from fecal-oral transmission, and now a study from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology reveals that it can also be transmitted via “aerosolized feces.

Aerosolized feces can spread through the air from a toilet plume, which is usually caused by flushing. 80% of these particles can be contained by simply closing the lid. A study from the City University of Hong Kong found that “A toilet flush can release up to 80,000 polluted droplets and leave them suspended a meter in the air for hours if the lid is left up.”

“Close the lid and then flush,” mechanical engineering professor, Dr. Qingyan Chen, told the outlet. He said it was a simple solution to help control the spread of the disease through toilet plumes.

According to the studies, per Forbes, there are four ways that the Coronavirus can be transmitted;

“1) direct contact or indirect contact (i.e. someone breathing on you or sharing a drink) (2) Droplets, which can be in a cough or skin-to-skin contact (3) Airborne, with COVID-19 passing through the air or via ventilation (4) oral-fecal transmission, meaning that contagions from fecal matter is inadvertently ingested. “
