While Saweetie has earned herself a handful of platinum-selling hits since the release of her first single “Icy Girl” in 2018, such as “Tap In” and “My Type,” fans have been eagerly waiting for the rapper’s debut album, which has already been postponed on countless occasions. The Santa Clara native has now taken to her Instagram Story to give an update on what’s caused the lengthy hold-up, telling her Icy Family fanbase that she’s “not rushing art.”

“These past couple of years have been a growing experience for me as an artist, human, but more importantly a WOMAN,” Saweetie wrote. “I have realized my purpose with the platform God has given me which is why I have taken my time with releasing music this time around.” The “Closer” hitmaker continued to express that her debut project “is not an album- it’s a movement. It’s a culture. It’s a language. It’s a lifestyle.”

“We not rushing art, we taking our time! This ain’t no microwave sh**! It’s baking & it will definitely be worth the taste.” Though she has yet to drop a full-length studio album, Saweetie has continued to brand herself with partnerships ranging from McDonald’s, MAC Cosmetics, Aussie sunglass brand Quay, and most recently, her deal with shoe brand Crocs. In March, Saweetie also became the Global Cultural Consultant of Champion, saying she “couldn’t be prouder to help my sporty-Icy Girls feel empowered.”

Aside from being a businesswoman and successful rapper, in late 2021, Saweetie told fans on Twitter that she was looking to start a family, writing, “I want some babies.” The remark had “Wild ’N Out” star Nick Cannon quote retweeting the message, as he responded with a series of emojis including a man raising his hand, to imply he is offering his services to make that happen.
