San Francisco Approves CAREN Act, Making Racist 911 Calls Illegal
See you later Karen, or CAREN as San Francisco board members are calling a new proposed act.
CARREN stands for the Caution Against Racial and Exploitative Non-Emergencies (CAREN) Act. The new act passed the chamber with 11 supervisors voting to approve it. The act will make racist attacks and 911 calls from KARENS and people of privilege who attack people of color, illegal.
This also appplies to Miss Becky, Ken, Katy, Susan, Chad and Patty.
“We want to make sure people don’t continue to weaponize emergency calls to law enforcement,” said Supervisor Shamann Walton. “Communities of color have the right to go about daily activities without being threatened by someone calling 911 on them due to someone’s racism. Rather than calling the police or law enforcement on your neighbor or someone who you think doesn’t look like they should be your neighbor, try talking to them and getting to know them. Let’s build relationships in our communities.”

The board will vote on the proposal again next week, and if it is passed, it will be sent to San Francisco Mayor London Breed, who will sign it into law.
