Oh no! #Socialites, it looks like it’s official! Sam Asghari has filed for divorce from Britney Spears, ending their 14-month marriage …just hours after cheating allegations surfaced online.
Reports first broke Wednesday afternoon (August 16), claiming Britney and her hubby had split recently and were heading towards a divorce. It was reported that Sam believed that Britney had cheated on him. Reportedly, they had a huge argument following the accusations and ever since, they have been living separately. A source spoke with TMZ and said, “It’s only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce.”

Now, the news is shocking, but not too surprising especially if you recall reports back in May. TMZ had dropped a documentary about the songstress and alleged that her marriage was already in “deep trouble.” The outlet further claimed the “Toxic” singer had gotten physical with her husband during screaming matches and that he was no longer spending much time at their house.
However, at the time, Sam was quick to slam the “disgusting” documentary and its filmmakers trying to exploit Britney “as a money-making machine.” Sources also claimed that in recent months, Sam has grown tired of defending his wife’s social media antics, which sources say became more frequent after her father’s nearly 14-year conservatorship ended.
Following this afternoon’s initial reports of the couple heading for divorce, we then learned about Sam allegedly threatening to release “extraordinarily embarrassing” information about his wife if their prenup doesn’t get renegotiated. While Britney’s lawyer has stated that her pre-marriage earnings are protected, it remains to be seen how this potential threat will impact their relationship and the public perception.
And now, just a couple hours later, it is being reported by ET that Sam Asghari has officially filed for divorce from his wife Britney Spears. After just 14 months of marriage, Sam filed paperwork with a date of separation as July 28, 2023, and he cited the usual Hollywood couple go-to reason for ending a marriage: “irreconcilable differences.”
In his filing, it is reported that Sam is asking for spousal support and attorney fees. Additionally, Sam’s lawyer, Neal Hersh, says that his client is set to contest his and Britney’s prenup. The documents reportedly state, “[Sam] has yet to determine the full nature and extent of the separate property assets and obligations of each party […] There are various items of community and quasi-community assets and debts, the full nature and extent of which are unknown to [Sam] at this time.”

It’s reported that Britney and Sam’s prenup matter most likely won’t go to court, instead, she’ll probably just write a check to her ex to settle things quietly and move on separately. Furthermore, sources addressed the cheating allegations and told ET that Britney is adamant that she didn’t cheat and that she “has not been doing well” amid the split.
The source told the outlet, “She has been denying any cheating allegations and going through a lot of emotions. She is hurt because the situation brings up old feelings for her. This is the last thing she needed, especially after her boys moved to Hawaii, being worried about the fires there, and so on. She has been trying to get back on her feet and be healthy emotionally, physically, and mentally. Britney has people by her side and her immediate circle is there for her. They are rallying around her.”
Meanwhile, other sources claim the couple had been feeling as if the their needs haven’t been met by each other, and that they eve “had issues on and off as a couple since before they were married.”
