Viral celebrity Salt Bae opened a few restaurants internationally after receiving fame on Instagram for his seasoning and meat chopping skills. However, his restaurant in NYC has been rated one of the worst by food critics.

According to Yahoo! News, Nusret Gökçe opened several steakhouses and burger spots after gaining internet fame for his butchering skills. However, his latest burger spot called #SaltBae received a lot of criticism from critics. A review from Gothamist compared his burgers to hospital food and said it tasted like old broccoli. Notable food critics Robert Sietsema and Ryan Sutton said the spot’s wagyu burger tasted like a “hotdog” and had the flavor of a gas grill:

“The wagyu burger did not taste like wagyu, it did not taste like beef. It had the texture of a hot dog and the flavor of liquid smoke and gas grill. It had none of the other characteristics of beef except juiciness,”

Sietsema said the golden milkshake, sold at a price of $99, did not live up it’s namesake:

“When one thinks of a fast food milkshake, some people want thinner and some people want thicker. But you at least want it to be cold and have some trace of ice cream. This was like drinking milk with a tiny bit of sugar — with a whole bunch of cloying stuff on top.”

There were more positive reviews on Yelp saying the internet celebrity came to take pictures with fans during opening week and many customers applauded the menu.
