Safety in Plastic Surgery from celebrated plastic surgeon Dr Roger Tsai

Plastic surgery is incredibly safe. It has come a long way, thanks to research leading to technological improvements alongside regulations such as board certification. The concept of medical clearance is one that Dr. Roger Tsai, among essentially any other plastic surgeon, adheres to. With this, the idea is to determine the patient’s health, potential risk factors, medical history, etc. Patient care is essential; even before the patient comes in for said surgery, the standard is still maintained, whether invasive or non-invasive. Even with this, it is routine that Dr. Tsai follows up in his way, double-checking blood work and redoing it as necessary. If all these checkpoints have been met, the idea of moving forward with plastic surgery can proceed.

A very safe experience, the general anesthesia, how patients are treated, and the decrease in recovery time factor into the better outcome of most procedures. Thanks to these many improvements in the field, it is a much easier experience than ever. Even some of the changes, such as the growing popularity of non-invasive procedures, have helped individuals approach this idea of improving themselves with considerably less hesitancy than before.

Procedures are permanent. Unlike other procedures, such as vision correction with Lasik, which needs to be touched up every five years, the results of these experiences last much longer. Even with the more permanent, the patient mustpay attention to see what has changed and what might need to be changed to “re-touch” procedures maybe twenty to thirty years later. Thus, the patient must do their due diligence before making any decision. Invasive procedures are the ones that last, as non-invasive surgeries are more of a temporary than a permanent solution. Keeping this in mind, it is nice to have that option as a way of trying to figure out what to do permanently, a stop-gap decision essentially.

However, much of the attention should be placed on the patient. The patient is ultimately responsible for ensuring that they take care of themselves. Sunscreen and moisturizers are essential elements for any long-lasting beauty regimen. Because while it may indeed be a benefit to help improve parts of the body that exercise and dieting can take care of, there are elements that are far outside the patient’s control.

With much of this, there is much to take in, including the importance of safety in any medical procedure, especially as highly visible as plastic surgery.
