Ryan Reynolds Launches Diversity Program To Provide People Of Color With Production Experience

Ryan Reynolds is doing his part to make the entertainment industry a more diverse one by launching a self-funded diversity and inclusion program called “The Group Effort Initiative.”

Reynolds revealed his new project via YouTube on YouTube Friday. The aim of the program is to give minorities the opportunity to work on and learn from his movie productions.

The recruits will be all people of color who will be of all ages!

“All ages?! Yes!” he says in the video. “Because it’s never too late.”

“These new recruits are going to be paid and housed and traveled out of my salary. They’re going to spend their days on set learning from professionals, getting real life experience that they can then parlay into another job and then hopefully – if they’re not too disillusioned – a career in the film industry.”

The actor also posted a statement posted to the program’s website.

“But for entirely too long that group has systemically excluded black, indigenous, people of color and several other marginalized communities,” he wrote. “This is a global problem which will not be fixed overnight, but change can start locally and immediately.”
