A 23-year-old model who criticized Vladimir Putin on social was found dead in a suitcase. Police claim the two situations are not connected.

Gretta Vedler went missing over a year ago after her apparent online rant about Putin but police reported that the young woman’s ex-boyfriend, Dmitry Korovin,23, recently confessed to her murder. He explained to authorities that he strangled Vedler to death and drove 300 miles to Lipetsk then abandoned her body in the vehicle. Prior to her death, the former couple reportedly argued over money rather than her political views about Putin.
Additionally, he told investigators that he slept in a hotel room for three days with her body before stuffing it in a suitcase. Korovin also posted to her social media pages to make it seem like she was still alive.

The January 2021 social media post referenced Putin’s opposition to protests within the country and wanted to end them in order to improve “the integrity” of Russia.
