As we previously shared, on Wednesday (April 10), former NFL star O.J. Simpson died at age 76 after a battle with prostate cancer. His family broke the news via social media.

While taking to Simpson’s official account on X (formerly Twitter), the Simpson Family wrote, “On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surroundied by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”

Along with the NFL community, other celebrities and the rest of social media reacted to the news, along with the family of Ron Goldman, a 25-year-old waiter whom Simpson was accused of murdering along with his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson.

The two were brutally stabbed to death outside Brown’s home in Los Angeles’ Brentwood neighborhood on June 12, 1994. Goldman was working at an Italian restaurant where Brown had eaten that night and later went to her home to return a pair of glasses she left behind.

Simpson was eventually acquitted of the double murder and in 1997, the victims’ families sued him for being liable for their deaths. In 1996, the families were awarded a $33.5 million judgment but were ultimately only paid a fraction of that before Simpson’s death. He reportedly only paid $123,000 of the balance and still owed about $114 million, including interest. Subsequently, the Goldman Family is seeking to get the money and/or assets that Simpson may have left behind so that they can collect the remaining funds owed.

While speaking with PEOPLE following O.J. Simpson’s cancer-related death, Fred Goldman, the father of Ron Goldman, says when it comes to Simpson’s death, he only has thoughts about his late son and Nicole Brown, noting it’s only a reminder of how long they have been dead.

Goldman said, “This is just a reminder for us of how long Ron has been gone, how long we have missed him, and nothing more than that. That is the only thing that is important today. It is the pain from then until now. There is nothing today that is more important than the loss of my son and the loss of Nicole. Nothing is more important than that.”
