Roland Martin recently reacted to Tyrese’s latest commentary, and he did not hold back in expressing his disapproval.

In case you missed it, the R&B singer recently held a live session with famed civil rights attorney Ben Crump. During this discussion, Tyrese voiced his grievances regarding President Joe Biden’s Hate Crime Bill, claiming that the focus on protecting the Asian community was hypocritical. He argued that in doing so, the government has neglected the needs of Black and Brown communities…

Tyrese stated, “President Biden and Kamala Harris signed an Asian Hate Crime Bill, which makes it beyond illegal to ever purposely or maliciously do anything to anybody in the Asian community.” He continued, “There was a spike in crimes and criminal behavior during COVID, allegedly motivated by Donald Trump. As a result, many began to treat Asians poorly—beating them, killing them, shooting them, stabbing them, hurting them. Then, Joe Biden enters the White House and skips over every Black and Brown person who has been victimized…instead prioritizing the Asian Hate Crime Bill.”

He continued, “There is a crime bill that was signed into law that protects Asians at all costs. Where is that same f***ing law to be enacted for Black and Brown people? The respected journalist and social media figure caught wind of Tyrese’s comments and felt compelled to deliver a message urging him to verify facts before making public statements.

In an Instagram video, Martin said, “Tyrese, you do not know what you’re talking about. Please learn to fact-check before you start talking.” In the caption accompanying his post, he reiterated, “I’m sick of celebrities talking about public policy and they do no fact checking. @tyrese did a video claiming Asian Americans received a hate crime bill and Black people did not. That is a 100% lie. I have debunked this lie on #RolandMartinUnfiltered on several occasions. I’ve also debunked the lie that there has never been in American history hate crime bills for African-Americans.” Here’s what else he had to say:

More on the Hate Crime Bill:

In 2021, President Biden signed legislation aimed at addressing hate crimes that surged during the COVID-19 pandemic. It happened amid the growing attacks on Asian Americans. The bill sought to make the reporting of ALL hate crimes more accessible at local and state levels by enhancing public outreach and ensuring that reporting resources are available online in multiple languages.

Additionally, it directed the Department of Justice to appoint a point person to expedite the review of hate crimes related to COVID-19 and authorized grants to state and local governments to implement crime-reduction programs designed to prevent and respond to hate crimes.

Tyrese has not yet publicly responded to Roland Martin. Until now then, share your opinions in the comment section below!
