Despite the criticism, Rihanna made history as the first pregnant woman to perform at the Super Bowl, and her performance was watched by 118.7 million people on television and streaming. According to Stacker, Fox reported that the show drew the most viewers since Katy Perry’s 2015 performance. Her halftime performance also drew 5% more views than the Kansas City Chiefs, and Philadelphia Eagles averaged throughout their games. Furthermore, she promoted her Fenty Beauty makeup line during the show, which resulted in 883 percent of Google searches for the brand 12 hours later. Next month, she will also perform “Lift Me Up” at the 95th Academy Awards.

Billboard also reported that Rihanna’s catalog received a 140 percent jump among streaming services and sold 42,000 downloads between February 12 and 13. “Umbrella” and “Diamonds” became the most streamed songs after the performance, with 3.8 million and 3.2 million streams. She also sold 142,000 album units in the country, and five of the albums reached the top 50 on the US Billboard 200 chart.
Fans of the halftime performance also clapped back at the hater who criticized her show as they noted there were raunchier performances from previous shows. One user wrote, “Have they all recovered from the aneurysms they suffered watching the Shakira/J-Lo halftime show 3 years ago? Another said, “What? I literally said wow, this halftime was the most tame I’ve seen in a while. I thought all the prudes would be happy.” Additionally, others commented on how fully dressed the backup dancers and Rihanna were dressed. “Lol, Rihanna was dressed in a giant head-to-toe red baggie, and THAT was too sexy?? Who are the idiots that think such?,” one fan noted.
