Radio host Rickey Smiley shared that his daughter happened to be one of the victims after a shooting that took place in Houston. He posted to Instagram Monday to share, “My youngest daughter @ryn.smiley was shot this past weekend while trying to get food from #Whataburger in #Houston, and I talked about it this morning during @garywdtea’s segment.” He added, “Thank you to everyone who’s keeping her lifted in prayer, and to everyone who has sent well wishes her way. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾”

Smiley also shared another post about his daughter Aaryn, letting viewers know that she’s “Still in surgery…. thanks for your prayers or our daughter @ryn.smiley!! I really appreciate the support!” During the interview, Smiley said she is expected to be ok. However, he went on to explain the sad reality for the other victims.

An 8-year-old died after she was shot during a night of violence across metro Atlanta. A 14-year-old boy was among four victims killed in a shooting late Saturday night in Englewood, California. An 11-year-old boy was also shot and killed in Southeast D.C. while watching fireworks on July 4th and sadly, several other children also died during the weekend due to gun violence.

While speaking about little Secoriea Turner, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms held a press conference and called for change to fight “the enemy within” saying that enough is enough after the fatal shooting Saturday near the Wendy’s where Rayshard Brooks was killed.

“I am asking you to please honor this baby’s life. Please, if you know who did this, please turn them in,” Bottoms said at a press conference Sunday.

“Enough is enough. We have talked about this movement that is happening across America at this moment in time when we have the ears and the interest of people across this country and across this globe who are saying they want to see change.”
