Reports Claim Alec Baldwin Wanted to Finish Making Rust After Fatal Set Shooting To ‘Honor’ Halyna Hutchins

According to a new court filing, Alec Baldwin wanted the cast and crew on the Rust set to complete filming after the fatal on-set shooting as a way to honor late cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

As we reported,42-year-old Hutch passed away on set of the movie in New Mexico after a gun that Baldwin was holding discharged, hitting her and director Joel Souza.

Documents obtained by The New York Times note that the 63-year-old actor wanted the Rust cast and crew to finish filming the movie in the weeks following Hutchins’ death as he had a plan to aid Matthew Hutchins and their son from  movie profits and insurance money. However, his legal team noted that Baldwin is not at fault for the shooting to legally liable in the filings.

“Baldwin has no knowledge of what happened to the gun from the time Reed relieved him of it before lunch to the time he was handed the gun declared ‘cold’ by Halls,” read the filing.

Hutchins also instructed Baldwin to put the gun at her per the document,

“She directed Baldwin to hold the gun higher, to a point where it was directed toward her,’ the filing stated. ‘She was looking carefully at the monitor and then at Baldwin, and then back again, as she gave these instructions. In giving and following these instructions, Hutchins and Baldwin shared a core, vital belief: that the gun was ‘cold’ and contained no live rounds.”

As we reported, Alec is facing numerous lawsuits stemming from the fatal on set incident.
